Warmth & Temperature Priming
The famous claim that holding a warm drink makes you judge people as warmer did not survive larger replications; if a host's coffee makes you trust them, it is hospitality and reciprocity, not thermal priming.
An everyday example
A warm cup on arrival at a sales meeting.
What it can cost you
Believing a wrong mechanism means missing the real one: the drink is a gift, and gifts create obligation.
Warning signs
- I feel warmly toward them and we have not discussed anything yet.
- I would feel rude pushing back after their kindness.
One thing to do
Accept the drink; count it as hospitality; owe nothing for it.
