Somatosensory Anchoring

Using a physical object or gesture as a deliberate cue for a mental state — a coin in the pocket, a hand on the table — so the body reminds you of a rule when the mind is busy.

An everyday example

Keeping a folded card with your walk-away number in your hand during a negotiation.

What it can cost you

None as a self-tool; the risk is the reverse use — objects and gestures placed by others to trigger their preferred state in you.

Warning signs

  • I forgot my own limit in the moment.
  • I need a reminder that survives adrenaline.

One thing to do

Choose one physical cue for one rule per situation; touch it before any yes.
