Pseudo-Profound Bullshit

Language built to impress rather than inform — buzzwords, abstractions, borrowed academic vocabulary — hides the absence of a claim; receptivity tracks lower analytic thinking, and everyone is susceptible when tired.

An everyday example

'We leverage synergistic paradigms to actualise holistic transformation' as a description of a consulting engagement.

What it can cost you

Paying for words; mistaking vocabulary for insight; being unable to say what was promised.

Warning signs

  • It sounded brilliant and I cannot repeat the point.
  • The vocabulary is doing the persuading.

One thing to do

Translate every sentence into what will concretely happen; if the translation is empty, so is the offer.
